Electric Vehicles (EV) sales are increasing rapidly in the country. To reduce carbon emissions and reduce fuel imports, the central government has taken measures to promote EVs. Many state governments are also giving subsidies to people on the purchase of electric vehicles. Tata Motors sells three electric cars, the Tiago EV, the Tigor EV and the Nexon EV. There are two variants of Nexon EV in these. The Indian Air Force has also included the Nexon EV in its fleet of vehicles.
Tata Motors has made preparations to increase growth through the EV segment. Last month, the company achieved the production milestone of 50,000 electric vehicles. Tata Motors plans to launch 10 EVs in the next five years. Tata Motors believes that the people of the country are taking interest in electric vehicles. These vehicles offer a solution to problems like rising fuel prices and pollution. Tata Motors Managing Director, Shailesh Chandra had said, “Buyers of electric vehicles are on the rise.” The company has introduced features like Multi Mode Regen and Multi Drive Mode to meet the EV needs of the customers. It has also started educating customers on the best way to drive an EV for more range. The company has also offered software upgrades to existing EV customers to improve the experience.
Recently, the company launched the country’s most affordable electric car Tiago EV. The price of this new electric car of the company is around Rs 8.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The Tiago EV gets two lithium-ion battery packs and two charging options. It is powered by a 19.2kWh battery that claims a 250km MIDC range. It is powered by a 24kWh battery that offers 315km MIDC range. This is 9km more than the ARAI certified range of the Tigor EV.
