iPhone 15 Launch Could Get Delayed; Apple Event Might be Held in October: Report

iPhone 15 launch might get a bit delayed than expected. Apple typically launches its new iPhone models in September every year. However, there have been a few instances in the past wherein the Apple event for an iPhone launch has been pushed to October. This time around, Apple might push the iPhone 15 series launch event by a few weeks, if a new report is to be believed. According to a MacRumors report, citing Wamsi Mohan, a global securities analyst at Bank of America, the iPhone 15 launch event could be delayed and hosted in October.

The analyst shared his prediction after conducting channel checks in Apple’s supply chain. Based on the details available, Mohan claims that Apple might push the iPhone launch event to the fourth quarter of 2023. The analyst did not give any reason behind the alleged delay of the launch event.

Apple is expected to launch four new iPhone models later this year. The iPhone 15 series will include the 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. The devices will debut as a successor to the iPhone 14 series launched last year in September. Mohan has been the only one so far to claim or report about any delay of the iPhone 15 series launch event. Therefore, we advise taking the report with a pinch of salt.

Some rumours claim that the Apple event for the iPhone 15 launch event will be hosted on September 12, which is a Tuesday. The iPhone 14 series, in comparison, was launched on September 7 last year, and went on sale starting September 16 in India, the US and many other markets. Only the 14 Plus went on sale in October as supply chain took a major hit due to lockdowns in China.

This time around, Apple seems to have streamlined its supply chain. There are reports of Apple partnering with the Tata Group for making the iPhone 15 in India. Other major Apple suppliers, such as Foxconn, Pegatron and LuxShare will manufacture other models as well for Apple.

iPhone 15 Series: Specifications and Features (Leaked)

Regarding the specs and features, a lot about the iPhone 15 series has leaked online. CAD renders of the iPhone 15 Pro series had leaked recently, which showed that the camera module will continue to sport a triple-camera setup, an LED flash module and a LiDAR sensor. However, the size of the module is now bigger than the outgoing model. There is also a new USB Type-C port and a new mute button, which Apple might also call the Action Button. 

All four iPhone models launching later this year are said to feature the Dynamic Island. This means that the non-Pro models will finally ditch the wide notch in favour of a hole-punch and a pill-shaped cutout. The non-Pro models are tipped to feature a dual-camera setup on the back.

All four iPhones are likely to feature a 48MP primary camera sensor and a 12MP ultra-wide camera. The non-Pro models might feature the 48MP Sony IMX803 sensor found in the iPhone 14 Pro models. The 15 Pro models are tipped to feature a new, bigger 48MP Sony IMX9-series camera sensor on the back. Also, the 15 Pro will feature a 12MP telephoto camera sensor, whereas the 15 Pro Max might get a new periscope lens with up to 6x optical zoom, according to some reports.

Under the hood, Apple might launch the 15 Pro models with the new A17 Bionic SoC, whereas the non-Pro models will likely feature the A16 Bionic SoC with a five-core GPU. There are rumours of the iPhones packing a bigger battery while continuing to offer the same 20W wired fast charging support. We can expect to launch its next-generation iPhones with the latest iOS 17 update out of the box.
